Google’s recommended event list covers shops, games and sign-ups. A guide download, a pricing toggle or an affiliate click does not fit any of them.
The Event Tracker extension of The Plus Addons for Elementor lets you name a GA4 event yourself and send it, with your own properties, from any Elementor widget.

Requirement – This extension is a part of The Plus Addons for Elementor Pro, make sure it’s installed & activated to enjoy all its powers.
Before You Start
- Edition: Pro — Event Tracker ships only in The Plus Addons for Elementor Pro. With the free plugin alone the Events Tracker section does not appear in the Advanced tab at all.
- Extension to enable: Event Tracker, under The Plus Addons > Extensions in the Plus Visibility group. It is off until you turn it on.
- Prerequisite: a GA4 Measurement ID on the site, saved under The Plus Addons > Settings > Analytics > GA4 Measurement ID. Without it the extension only logs a message in the browser console.
- Prerequisite: something to click. The event fires on a click, so put the tracker on a button, a link, a form submit button or a video play button — not on a block of plain text.
Send a Custom GA4 Event
- Select the widget in Elementor and open the Advanced tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and open Events Tracker.
- Turn on Google Analytics 4.
- Set Event Type to Custom. The Select Event dropdown is replaced by an Event Name field.
- Type your event name, for example
guide_download. The placeholder suggests i.e Sports. - In Event Properties, open the item and fill in Name and Value. Use + Add Item for more rows.
- Update the page.
Use lowercase letters, numbers and underscores in the event name, the way GA4’s own events are written. The name is sent exactly as typed, so a different spelling is a different event.
Promoting an affiliate product, for instance, you might name the event affiliate_click and send affiliate_network / your network and product / the product name as its properties.
Check That the Event Fires
On the published page a click pushes the event with its properties, and GA4 sends it on a few seconds later. This is what the browser actually did on a test page:
- Install the Google Analytics Debugger Chrome extension and turn it on.
- Reload your page and click the tracked element.
- In Google Analytics, go to Admin > DebugView. Your event appears by name, and opening it shows your properties.
Turn ad blockers off and do not use a browser that blocks trackers by default. If DebugView stays empty, this guide lists the usual causes.
Outside DebugView, a brand-new custom event can take up to 24 hours to appear in GA4 reports, and you may need to register it as a custom dimension before its properties can be used in a report.
How It Behaves
- Custom and Recommended are alternatives: picking Custom hides Select Event and shows Event Name instead.
- The name and every property are sent as typed, including capitals and spaces.
- The event is sent on a click, and GA4 batches it, so the request follows a second or two later.
- A custom event carries exactly the properties you list, and nothing else.
Limitations
- Every GA4 event is recorded twice. On a button the same link matches two of the extension’s internal selectors, so one click pushes two identical events. Your counts for these events will be double.
- On a container, only the first link is tracked. Put the tracker on each button rather than on the container holding them.
- Names are not validated. Nothing warns you about a space, a capital or a typo; GA4 simply records a second, separate event.
- Every property value is sent as text, so you cannot send a number GA4 will treat as numeric without configuring it on Google’s side.
Troubleshooting
I cannot find my event in DebugView
Check the Event Name field is filled in and look for that exact string, including capitals. GA4 does not tidy the name up for you.
The properties are missing
Open the repeater item and check both Name and Value are filled in. An empty row sends nothing.
Each click is counted twice
That is the known double-fire above. The events are real; the count is doubled.
The event never reaches GA4 at all
Check the measurement ID is saved under The Plus Addons > Settings > Analytics > GA4 Measurement ID, and that no ad blocker or tracking protection is running.
