As a website owner, you may have encountered the need to limit the length of text descriptions in the Elementor text widget. This is often needed when you have a specific design goal or want to keep text within a consistent character or word count across multiple cards or listing items.
In this type of scenario, the Advanced Text Block widget in The Plus Addons for Elementor lets you set a character or word count limit directly in the Elementor editor. The default Elementor Text widget does not include a built-in word count limit, which makes this widget useful when you need uniform text lengths across grid or card layouts.

Best Used For:
- Blog and portfolio card grids where all description text must be the same length for visual alignment
- Team member or product pages with uniform card layouts that need consistent text length
- Listings and archive pages where truncated excerpt text should end with an ellipsis indicator
Requirement – This widget is a part of The Plus Addons for Elementor, make sure its installed & activated to enjoy all its powers.
To do this, add the Advanced Text Block widget to the page and navigate to the Content tab. Enable the Description Limit toggle to activate text truncation.

From the Limit on dropdown, select how to truncate the text –
- Character – Limits the description to a set number of characters. Use this when you need precise control over display length, such as in a card where the line-break position matters.
- Word – Limits the description to a set number of words. Use this for a more natural reading experience, since word-based truncation avoids cutting off mid-word.
In the Count field, enter the maximum number of characters or words to display.
To limit the length of post excerpt text in an Elementor blog listing instead, see how to limit post excerpt in Elementor blog posts.
Enable the Display Dots toggle to add an ellipsis (…) at the end of the truncated text. Use this when you want visitors to understand that the text continues beyond what is shown. This works for both single-line and multiline text blocks.
For adding a Read More toggle that expands and collapses the full text on click, see how to add a Read More toggle button in Elementor.
