How to Add Google reCAPTCHA in Elementor Form?

Getting spam through your Elementor form? Google reCAPTCHA checks whether a visitor is a person or a bot.

The Form widget from The Plus Addons for Elementor supports Google reCAPTCHA v3, which runs in the background without a checkbox.

Requirement – This widget is a part of The Plus Addons for Elementor, make sure it’s installed & activated to enjoy all its powers.

Before You Start

• Edition: Pro — The ReCAPTCHA field needs The Plus Addons for Elementor Pro. The free plugin does not list it.
• Widget to enable: Form, switched on under The Plus Addons > Widgets.
• A Google account to register your site for reCAPTCHA v3.

Get Your reCAPTCHA v3 Keys

1. Sign in to Google and open the reCAPTCHA admin console (google.com/recaptcha/admin).
2. Enter a Label, for example your domain name.
3. Choose reCAPTCHA v3 as the type. Other types do not work with this widget.
4. Add your domain under Domains, without http:// or https://.
5. Accept the terms and click Submit.

Google now shows your Site Key and Secret Key. Keep this page open.

Save the Keys in The Plus Addons

1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to The Plus Addons > Widgets and find the Form widget.
2. Click the settings (gear) icon on the Form card. The Form Features pop-up opens.
3. On the Google reCAPTCHA v3 tab, paste the Site Key and Secret Key and click Save.

Add the reCAPTCHA Field

1. Edit your form in Elementor and click + Add Item in Content > General.
2. Open the new item and set Type to ReCAPTCHA. The notice under it links to the key settings (Here).
3. Publish the page.

How It Behaves

• Visitors see no checkbox. reCAPTCHA v3 checks them in the background when the page loads and when they submit.
• The form is only sent after Google confirms the check. Otherwise the visitor sees the Submission Issue message.
• Until both keys are saved, the form shows “Please add reCAPTCHA Site Key and Secret Key.” in red, and visitors see it too.

Limitations

• The keys apply to every Form widget on your site. Once they are saved, a Form widget without a ReCAPTCHA field stops working and shows an error when submitted. Add a ReCAPTCHA field to every Form widget on the site.
• Only reCAPTCHA v3 keys work. v2 (checkbox) keys do not.

Troubleshooting

A form that has no reCAPTCHA field now shows an error

That form is affected by the saved keys. Add a ReCAPTCHA field to it, or remove the keys if no form needs reCAPTCHA.

Save both keys in the Form widget settings, then reload the page.
