Plenty of sites organize content with taxonomies other than the built-in Category – a custom post type’s own taxonomy, or one registered by another plugin.
The Dynamic Categories widget’s Taxonomies dropdown is built live from the site’s own registered taxonomies, so it works with any of them, not just Category and Tag.
Requirement – This widget is a part of The Plus Addons for Elementor, make sure it’s installed & activated to enjoy all its powers.
Before You Start
- Prerequisite: Elementor (free) installed and active.
- Edition: Dynamic Categories is a free widget – it works with just The Plus Addons for Elementor installed, no Pro licence required.
- Widget to enable: go to The Plus Addons > Widgets, search for Dynamic Categories and turn its toggle on.
Steps
- Add the Dynamic Categories widget to the page.
- From Taxonomies, choose the custom taxonomy you want to list. This dropdown always reflects what is actually registered on your site – for example, The Plus Addons for Elementor’s own Team Member widget registers a
theplus_team_member_cattaxonomy that appears here automatically once that widget’s data exists. - Configure Layout, columns and the rest exactly as for any other taxonomy.
Why This Matters
- No code or extra plugin is needed to point the widget at a custom taxonomy – if it’s registered on the site, it’s already selectable.
- The same Layout, Columns and Extra Option controls documented in the other Dynamic Categories guides apply unchanged, regardless of which taxonomy is selected.
