Facebook does not give a review a star rating the way Google does. It records a recommendation, and the **Social Reviews** widget turns a review that is not a recommendation into a one-star card. **Negative Review Stars** lets you choose what that rating shows instead. It changes the number of stars drawn on the card — it does not change the review text, and it does not change anything on Facebook. The widget does not exist in the free plugin at all: no widget file, no CSS and no JavaScript, so there is nothing to fall back to.- **Prerequisite:** [Elementor](https://wordpress.org/plugins/elementor/) (free) installed and active.- **Widget to enable:** go to **The Plus Addons > Widgets**, search for **Social Reviews** and turn its toggle on.- **Prerequisite:** a Facebook **Page**, an **Access Token** for it, and that page's id for the **Page/Place ID** field.- **Prerequisite:** your server must be able to make outbound HTTPS requests. Facebook and Google are called **server-side** while the page renders, not by the visitor's browser. > *Be careful with this one. Showing a critical review with four stars misrepresents what the reviewer said. It is your call, and in some markets presenting reviews misleadingly is a legal problem, not just an ethical one.* ## Change the rating shown - Edit the page with Elementor and add the **Social Reviews** widget, with **Type** on **Reviews**.- Add a Facebook source under **Social Reviews** — set **Source** to **Facebook** and fill in **Access Token** and **Page/Place ID**.- Open **Content > Review Option**.- Set **Negative Review Stars** to **1**, **2**, **3** or **4**. It starts at **1**, which leaves the rating alone. ## The two controls involved | Setting | Where | What it does | Default | | ------- | ----- | ------------ | ------- | | **Negative Review Stars** | Content > Review Option | The star rating drawn on a review Facebook did not record as a recommendation. Four choices: 1, 2, 3, 4. | **1** | | **Result Type** | on each Facebook row in Social Reviews | Which reviews the row asks for at all. **Default** for everything, **Negative** for only the critical ones, **Positive** for only the recommendations. | **Default** | The two work at different stages. **Result Type** decides which reviews are fetched; **Negative Review Stars** decides how the ones that arrive are drawn. If you want critical reviews off the page altogether, set **Result Type** to **Positive** rather than re-rating them. ## How It Behaves Both settings act on data that Facebook returns, and this page was checked without ever entering a real access token. What is written above is the panel — the labels, the options and the defaults, read from the widget itself. What the setting does to a real one-star review was not observed, and the section below says so rather than guessing. ## Limitations - **Negative Review Stars only affects Facebook rows.** Google reviews carry their own star rating and manual reviews carry whatever you typed into **Rating Value (1-5)**. Neither is touched by this setting.- **It changes the stars, not the words.** The review text is shown exactly as Facebook returned it, so a critical review still reads as a critical review.- **You cannot set it to 5.** The dropdown offers 1 to 4.- **Nothing is changed on Facebook.** This is presentation on your own page only.- **A failed connection produces a pink card, not an explanation.** A Facebook row whose **Access Token** is wrong renders a card reading **Something Wrong** (that spelling is the plugin's). A row whose token and **Page/Place ID** are both *completely empty* renders exactly the same card, so the message does not tell you whether you mistyped the token or never pasted one.- **Reviews are fetched on your server, and cached.** Nothing is requested from the visitor's browser, so a source that works on one host can fail on another that blocks outbound requests. **Refresh Time** (default **1 day**) decides how often the request is repeated. ## Not verified So you know exactly what has and has not been checked: - **Result Type and Negative Review Stars.** Both act on data returned by Facebook. With no token there was nothing to filter or re-rate, so neither was observed working.- **A wall of real Facebook reviews.** This page was checked without ever entering a real access token, API key or place id, so what the finished Facebook feed looks like once connected was not observed for this revision. Everything below that does not need a credential was checked on a published page.- **The Generate Access Token button.** The Facebook login popup, and whether it really fills **Access Token** and **Page/Place ID** for you, needs a real Facebook account and was not exercised.- **Exactly which reviews count as negative.** The widget works from what Facebook returns for a review's recommendation, and that mapping was read from the code rather than seen on a live page.- **Whether Result Type and Negative Review Stars interact.** For example whether setting **Result Type** to **Negative** and then re-rating those reviews behaves sensibly. Not tested. ## Troubleshooting ### The Review Option section is not there **Type** is set to **Badge**. **Review Option** only appears when **Type** is **Reviews**. ### The stars did not change Three things to check. The row's **Source** must be **Facebook** — Google and manual rows are unaffected. The reviews must actually be arriving, so look for a **Something Wrong** card. And the result is cached, so lower **Refresh Time** under **Content > Extra Options** or wait for the current cache to expire. ### I want to hide critical reviews instead Set **Result Type** on the Facebook row to **Positive**.
