# How to Close First Elementor Accordion By Default?

##

- The Accordion widget from The Plus Addons for Elementor starts with every item closed when Content > Extra Option > Active Tab is set to 0 instead of the default 1.
- The Plus Addons for Elementor Accordion widget works in the free plugin and in Pro, with Accordion switched on under The Plus Addons > Widgets.
- Active Tab supports three load states: 0 keeps all items closed, a item number opens a different item on load, and All Open opens them all.

Does your accordion open the first item every time the page loads? You can start with every item closed instead.

The Accordion widget from The Plus Addons for Elementor does this with one setting, in the free plugin too.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Q: Why does the first accordion item keep opening by default, and how do I stop that?**
A: The default behavior is controlled by the Accordion widget’s Active Tab setting. In The Plus Addons for Elementor, POSIMYTH provides a simple way to start with everything closed by setting Active Tab to 0 instead of the default 1. That matters because 1 opens the first item on load, while 0 keeps every item closed until a visitor clicks one.

**Q: What do I need before I can close the first Elementor accordion by default?**
A: The Accordion widget has to be installed and activated inside The Plus Addons for Elementor. The page says this works in the free plugin too, and the widget is enabled under The Plus Addons > Widgets. That means the setup is not a separate workaround, it depends on the Accordion widget being available in Elementor first.

**Q: Does closing the first accordion by default work in the free version?**
A: The setting works in the free plugin as well as Pro. The page explicitly says the Accordion widget from The Plus Addons for Elementor does this with one setting in the free plugin too. That makes it useful when you want a collapsed accordion without needing a paid upgrade just for this behavior.

**Q: What should I set if I want all accordion items closed on page load?**
A: Set Content > Extra Option > Active Tab to 0. That is the key value for starting with every item closed instead of opening the first one automatically. If you want a different item open on load, use its number instead, and if you want everything expanded, choose All Open.

**Q: Can I open a different accordion item by default instead of the first one?**
A: The Active Tab setting lets you choose which item opens on load. The page says picking a number opens that item instead of the first one, so this is useful when your most important answer is not at the top. If you want no panel open at all, use 0; if you want every panel visible, use All Open.

**Q: Where can I find more details about the Accordion widget settings?**
A: The related docs point to [Accordion widget: settings overview](https://theplusaddons.com/docs/elementor-accordion-widget-settings-overview/) and [All Active Tab choices, explained](https://theplusaddons.com/docs/set-elementor-accordion-closed-by-default/). Those pages are useful when you need context on what Active Tab values do beyond this tutorial, especially if you are deciding between closed by default, one open item, or All Open.
