Do you want to create a video popup in Elementor? A video popup lets you display a video in an overlay when a visitor clicks a thumbnail, keeping your page layout clean while still delivering video content at the right moment.
The Video widget in The Plus Addons for Elementor has a built-in Video On Popup option that lets you set a banner image as the thumbnail and open the video in an overlay when clicked.
Best Used For:
- Landing pages where a product demo video should open in an overlay without navigating away from the page
- Course or membership sites where lesson preview videos play in a popup before visitors commit to enrolling
- Agency or portfolio sites where showreel or case study videos load in a fullscreen overlay

Requirement – This widget is a part of The Plus Addons for Elementor. Make sure it is installed and activated.
To do this, add the Video widget from The Plus Addons for Elementor to the page and follow the steps.
1. From the Source dropdown under the Video tab, select the appropriate video source. Use YouTube or Vimeo for hosted videos, or select Self-Hosted if you are uploading the video directly to WordPress.
2. Add the video according to the selected source (paste the video URL or upload the file).
3. From the Only Icon / Full Banner dropdown under the Image/Icon tab, select Banner Image. This is the option that lets you use a full thumbnail image as the video trigger.
Note: Only Icon Image option will open the video in a popup by default.
4. Enable the Banner Image toggle to activate the banner image as the clickable thumbnail.
5. In the Image Upload section, add the thumbnail image visitors will click to open the video popup. This is typically a frame from the video or a branded cover image.
From the Image Resolution dropdown, set the display size of the thumbnail image.
To add a play button icon over the banner image, go to the Icon Upload section and upload your icon. This helps visitors recognize the image as a clickable video.
From the Image Resolution dropdown, set the display size of the icon.
In the Title of Video field, add a title for the video. This appears alongside the thumbnail and helps visitors understand what the video covers before clicking.
In the Video Description field, add a short description of the video.
6. Go to Style > Video Styling and enable the Video On Popup toggle. This tells the widget to open the video in a popup overlay instead of playing it inline on the page.

When a visitor clicks the thumbnail image, the video will open in a popup. To trigger this same video popup by clicking any custom element on the page, see how to show an Elementor popup on other element click.
