# How to Show Custom Text Message After Countdown Timer Ends?

Do you want to show a custom message the moment your countdown timer ends? ## What It Does

This feature lets the Countdown widget show a custom text message once the timer reaches zero. Instead of a finished timer or a dead offer, visitors see the exact words you wrote, displayed right where the countdown used to be.

It works on both the Normal Countdown and the Scarcity (Evergreen) Countdown setups, so any timer on your site can hand off to a message when it ends.

## Why It Matters

An expired countdown that still shows "00:00:00" or a promotion that has clearly ended sends the wrong message and can cost you the sale. Manually editing the page the moment a timer ends is not practical, especially for time-sensitive or recurring campaigns.

A custom expiry message handles that transition for you. The switch happens on its own the instant the timer ends, so the page always says the right thing: "This offer has ended", "Registration is now closed", or whatever fits your campaign.

## How It Works

The message you type is prepared with the page but kept hidden while the countdown runs. When the timer reaches its end date and time, the widget hides the countdown and reveals your message text in the same position on the page.

The transition happens in place, without a page reload, so your message simply takes over the spot where the timer was.

## How to Use It

Add the Countdown widget to the page and follow the steps:

- Select **Normal Countdown** from the **Countdown Setup** dropdown.- Choose your style and set the end date and time in the **Countdown Style** and **Launch Date** sections.- Open the **Special Option** section and turn on **After Expiry Action**.- Set the **Select Action** dropdown to **Message**.- In the **Expiry Message** field, type the custom message you want visitors to see.

Now, once the countdown timer ends, visitors will see your custom message in place of the timer.

## Use Cases

- **Expired flash sale:** replace the timer with a short "This offer has ended, thanks for stopping by" note.- **Closed registration:** show a "Registration is now closed, join the waitlist" message when signups end.- **Restock or announcement:** tell visitors what happens next, such as "Back in stock soon" or "Winners announced shortly".

## Limitations

- The message appears only where the widget sits, not across the whole page. To change the entire page, use the Page Redirect action instead, or the Template action.- The three After Expiry Action choices (Message, Template, Page Redirect) are mutually exclusive. One Countdown widget runs one action.- The Message action is for text. If you need a full layout with images, buttons, or columns after expiry, use the Template action.- These controls handle what shows after expiry. The countdown's own end date and time are still set in the Launch Date section.

## Troubleshooting

**My message does not appear after the countdown ends.** Open the **Special Option** section and confirm that **After Expiry Action** is on, **Select Action** is set to **Message**, and the **Expiry Message** field actually contains your text rather than being left empty.

**I want the whole page to change, not just the widget area.** The Message action swaps content only where the widget is placed. For a full-page change, set **Select Action** to **Page Redirect**, or use the Template action to reveal a saved Elementor layout.

**The old timer still shows instead of my message.** This is usually caching. Regenerate the Elementor files under Elementor, Tools, Regenerate CSS & Data, then clear your site and browser cache and reload the page.

**My message shows but the formatting looks off.** The Expiry Message field is meant for short text. If you need headings, images, or buttons, switch Select Action to Template and build the follow-up content as a full Elementor template.
